The natural world and Paris fashion are the themes of new adult colouring book acquisitions from Orion and Saltyard.
Orion has a series of six "mindful art therapy colouring books" by illustrator Anastasia Catris, with non-fiction publishing director Anna Valentine buying world rights direct from the author. The first three titles - Colour me Mindful: Tropical, Birds and Underwater (all £4.99 paperbacks) will be out on 30th July; a further three - Colour me Mindful: Enchanted Creatures, Seasons and Butterflies - will be published on 1st October. Each feature over 50 "intricate" line drawings.
Valentine said: "Ana is an incredibly talented illustrator and these six titles are a stunning addition to this thriving area of the market. I know may people will lose themselves in the pages of these books, colouring themselves calm and happy in the process."
Meanwhile Kate Miles, senior editor at John Murray Press imprint Saltyard, has bought UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding US and Canada) for Parisian Street Style by Zoe de Las Cases from Pixie Shields at Marabout (Hachette Livre). The book, a £9.99 paperback, is described as "a sophisticated and intricate colouring book with a mix of full-page floral patterns, Paris cityscapes [pictured], picturesque streets and beautiful fashion essentials."
Saltyard will publish in September, shortly after Marabout.
Miles said: "Zoe's illustrations are completely charming and stylish and I'm sure it will make a really lovely gift this Christmas."
The adult colouring market has surged in the last year, including Millie Marotta’s Animal Kingdom (Batsford) which has sold just over 152,000 units since August 2014 and Emma Farraron's The Mindfulness Colouring Book (Boxtree) which has shifted almost 82,000 units since being published in January this year.
