Orion acquires two by Kate Lord Brown

Orion has signed two books by Kate Lord Brown, who has previously been published by Atlantic’s Corvus imprint.

Kate Mills, Orion publishing director, acquired the novels from Sheila Crowley at Curtis Brown, for a “good five-figure sum”.

The first novel, The Christmas We Met, will be published by Orion this autumn. It the story of a diamond brooch left to a young widow who discovers its link to a priceless missing tiara.

Mills said: “I’ve been a fan of Kate’s for some time and I’m delighted that the opportunity to publish her on the Orion Fiction list has come our way. Her novels encompass everything I love in commercial fiction – a fabulous feel for character and story, touched with intrigue and romance. Kate’s a natural storyteller and this is a perfect winter read.”

Lord Brown said: “Orion gave me my first big break six years ago with ITV’s People’s Author. I’m now delighted to be joining their fabulous list of authors, and looking forward to working with such a great team.”

Lord Brown’s The Perfume Garden (Corvus) was shortlisted for the UK Romantic Novel of the Year 2014.
