Orenda Books has signed a two-book deal with “The King of Helsinki Noir”, Finnish crime writer Antti Tuomainen.
Karen Sullivan, publisher of Orenda, acquired world English language rights for two books in a deal negotiated with Federico Ambrosini of the Salomonsson Agency.
The first book, The Mine, focuses on a mining company whose illegal activities are at the root of an environmental disaster. "With shifting points of view, exquisite prose, and a deeply emotional core, this is not only an excellent example of socially conscious crime, but a nail-biting, vividly drawn thriller of the highest order. Antti is currently writing a second book for Orenda, and we have no doubt that it too will be outstanding,” Sullivan said.
Tuomainen said: “I am so very happy about this. Karen is a force of nature, a wonderful person and an incredible publisher. I feel that Orenda Books is the perfect publisher for my literary crime novels. I am certain that together we will reach a wider audience in the UK and elsewhere. Also, I'm predicting we will have a lot of fun on the way and you're very welcome to join us.”
Ambrosini added: “I am thrilled to see Antti Tuomainen join Orenda Books. They have, after only a year in business, built a great list of authors and achieved impressive results. With energy and passion they have brought fresh air into the publishing business. Antti’s crime novels are a perfect match for their list.”
Orenda will publish The Mine in spring 2017 and a second title later that year.
