Orbit, the science fiction and fantasy imprint of Little, Brown Book Group, has appointed Anne Clarke as its UK editorial director. In other changes at the imprint, James Long, author of the "Speculative Horizons" blog, has also joined as editorial assistant, following Anna Gregson's promotion to commissioning editor in the summer.
Clarke will succeed Darren Nash in the post, and will join Orbit in 4th January 2011, reporting into publishing director Tim Holman. Clarke is currently a commissioning editor at Hodder & Stoughton, where she has been in the fiction editorial department for six years. She was recently responsible for setting up the Mulholland Books suspense imprint in the UK.
Clarke said: "I have long admired Orbit's outstanding list and am thrilled to be joining them at such an exciting time for genre publishing. I will be very sad to say goodbye to all the wonderful people at Hodder, and I'll particularly miss being involved in the launch of Mulholland Books next spring, but I couldn't resist the opportunity of my new role at Orbit. It's a fantastic imprint, supported by a talented and dedicated team—I'm really looking forward to getting started in the new year."
