Orbit acquires urban fantasy trilogy

Little, Brown imprint Orbit has acquired a new urban fantasy trilogy which has already attracted attention in the US.

Editorial director Anne Clarke bought UK and Commonwealth rights to the first three books through Evan Goldfield at Jill Grinberg Literary Management.

The trilogy is set in Arizona, and has at its centre rare book salesman and 2,000 year-old druid Atticus O'Sullivan. The first title, Hounded, features Celtic gods, with second Hexed focusing on Coyote and the Bacchants, and Hammered, the third book, a plot against Thor. The books will be published in September, October and November 2011 respectively.

Clarke said: "I first read the manuscript for Hounded in 2009 but it was before I moved to Orbit, and although I loved the story, I couldn't see a way to make it work on my list back then (I was mainly publishing crime thrillers).

"When I heard the Iron Druid series was still looking for a UK home I couldn't believe my luck, and I'm delighted to be bringing Atticus to the UK after all."
