US digital publisher Open Road is publishing the bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul series as a collection of 160 e-books, teaming up with brand owner Chicken Soup for the Soul Publishing.
The books, which compile inspirational stories collected from members of the public, have sold more than 500 million copies around the world and hold the record for the most titles on the New York Times bestseller list at any one time.
The first 40 e-books are on sale this week, and include Chicken Soup for the Teacher’s Soul, and Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. They have a list price of £8.95 ($7.99 in the US) and are being sold through multiple channels.
The first Chicken Soup title was launched in 1993. Open Road’s chief marketing officer Rachel Chou said that although some of the material would be lightly edited before the e-book releases, the majority of the books were still relevant: “Chicken Soup For the Soul has an incredible brand and the material remains as relevant as ever, with a few minor tweaks.”
Open Road was founded by former HarperCollins c.e.o. Jane Friedman in 2009. The Chicken Soup for the Soul series has been published in the UK by Vermillion since they first released.
