Libraries are to begin their lead-up to the 2012 Olympics with a programme of activities set to coincide with the handover from the Beijing games (24th August) and the launch of the Cultural Olympiad (26th-28th September).
Over 100 museums, libraries and archives will be hosting a wide range of events under two umbrella projects managed by the MLA: The People's Record, a community archive project about what hosting the games means to the people of London and the UK, and Literature and Stories, a poetry and storytelling project aimed at young people and families.
The new MLA Chair Andrew Motion said: "Our museum, library and archive collections are a wonderfully rich reflection of the world's complex cultural identities. It's absolutely right that they should play this crucial role in allowing people throughout the country to take part in the Cultural Olympiad, and to celebrate the games."
