A book about Michael Jackson, which was commissioned three years ago, was submitted to independent publisher Old Street just hours before the singer died, the company has revealed.
Neverland by Simon Crump is due out on 11th August, after the publication date of at least two commemorative books commissioned by other publishers since Jackson's death, but Old Street m.d and publisher Ben Yarde-Buller was confident his book would still find customer demand, describing it as "an antidote to the glut of rushed hack jobs".
The book, a B-format paperback, will be priced £7.99. Old Street holds the world rights and is currently looking for an American publisher to take on the territorial rights.
There has already been "lots of retailer interest and support" and a "big PR campaign [is] being lined up," Yarde-Buller added.
"It's amazing serendipity," he continued. "[It's] very nice when something happens that makes it a bit easier to get a great writer on people's radars."
Crump's My Elvis Blackout, a fictional remembering of the first musician to be called The King, was originally published by Bloomsbury, but Old Street owns the rights, and is planning to re-issue the book early next year.
