A musical soundtrack to the third of Virago author Sarah Dunant’s Renaissance novels, Sacred Hearts (2nd July, £14.99), is to be released, with a dramatisation also planned for BBC Radio 4.
Dunant has collaborated with music group Musica Secreta on a soundtrack of 16th-century Italian music to accompany the title, which is about the secret lives of Renaissance nuns, including the music they made within their convents.
Excerpts from the soundtrack will be used in the dramatisation of the novel, starring Sheila Hancock and Geraldine James, which will be broadcast for two weeks from 29th June on BBC Radio 4’s 'Woman’s Hour'.
The Royal Festival Hall will also host an evening of live music, singing and readings to launch the book on 2nd July, as part of the London Literature Festival. Musica Secreta’s tie-in album, “Sacred Hearts, Secret Music” will be released in September.
