New imprint Notting Hill Editions launches today (5th May), with the aim of revitalising essay publishing.
Essays by George Perec, Roland Barthes, Lavinia Greenlaw and Jonathan Keates, accompanied by introductions by the likes of Margaret Drabble and Michael Wood are among its first publications.
Future authors will include Susan Greenfield, James Fenton and Simon Heffer. Writer Lucasta Miller will be the imprint's editorial director.
Meanwhile a website, nottinghilleditions.com, will offer access to an online Essay Journal, edited by Daily Telegraph columnist Harry Mount and featuring a weekly new essay, and the Essay Library, a compilation of 100 leading essays.
Notting Hill Editions founder Tom Kremer said: "We want our readers to consider nottinghilleditions.com as the home of the essay, celebrating and encouraging intellectual debate, as well as thedevelopment and growth of ideas.
"An online community is the perfect place for discussion to flourish and develop around the essays themselves, and it will be a huge strength of the new imprint."
