Nosy Crow launches illustrator salons

Children’s publisher Nosy Crow will from September host a number of evening events dedicated to illustration.

The first Nosy Crow Illustrator Salon will feature Steven Lenton, illustrator of the Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam picture books, written by Tracy Corderoy, on the 14th September. Nosy Crow m.d. Kate Wilson will interview Lenton before opening the questions up to the audience.

Business development manager Tom Bonnick said: “I’ve followed the #picturesmeanbusiness campaign with interest, and this Salon is partly in response to the call for greater recognition for illustrators: we wanted to do something that championed individuals and their work, increased visibility for illustrators, and treated illustration as a serious art form in itself (rather than just an afterthought to writing!).”

The salons will initially feature Nosy Crow illustrators but Bonnick said the company is “entirely open to featuring other artists down the line”, adding: “My hope is that this will grow into something larger and, in terms of the illustrators we feature, entirely publisher-agnostic.”

The first event is taking place on the 14th September, at The Book Club in Hoxton, London, and prices start at £5 for a ticket to the event, going up to £15 for admission and a signed hardback.
