The Nook application will be pre-loaded onto Microsoft’s Windows 8 programme when it launches in the US in summer, B&N c.e.o. William Lynch has revealed.
Speaking yesterday (7th June) at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition in Chicago, America, Lynch said a Nook app would be pre-loaded onto the programme for users to access, which will also have the effect of “extending the reach of Barnes & Noble’s digital content to Windows users around the world".
It is still unclear when Windows 8 will launch in the UK and if it will also include the pre-loaded Nook app, but analysts have previously speculated that it would. B&N declined to comment on the issue.
According to internetretailer.com, Lynch said it was “critical” to have the right technology partners to continue to build Nook into a $1 billion business and to change it from a traditional bookselling business into an e-commerce organisation. “We set out to build a coalition of the willing,” Lynch told conference attendees.
B&N announced in April that Microsoft had invested $300m in Barnes and Noble, forming “a new subsidiary” of the bookselling chain to include the store’s Nook, digital and college business.
