No Exit Press acquires Brother's Lot

No Exit Press has acquired a "hilarious and satirical novel" by debut author Kevin Holohan, called The Brothers' Lot.

Publishing director Ion Mills bought UK and Commonwealth English-language rights, including digital, from Johnny Temple at Akashic Books in New York.

The book tells the story of the Brothers of Godly Coercion School for Young Boys of Meager Means, a "dilapidated Dickensian institution" run by celibate Brothers who are looking for a miracle in order to secure a sainthood for their founder.

Mills said: "The Brothers' Lot is a powerful and compassionate story that lifts the lid on a regrettable era in Irish history. Terribly bleak yet
wickedly funny, it salutes the rebellious spirit of the young boys in church-run schools who battled authoritarian rule".

The book will be published in paperback as an open market edition, priced £7.99, on 2nd June 2011, with a UK edition launching in September.
