HarperCollins is reprinting thousands of copies of David Walliams’ The Slightly Annoying Elephant, after a boat carrying the books to Britain from China fell victim to the St Jude storm.
The storm struck the Maersk Salina ship in Bay of Biscay, which was carrying around 30,000 copies of the book, Walliams' first picturebook.
However publisher HarperCollins told The Bookseller that there are no problems with supply to UK booksellers and that it is meeting all its orders on time.
The news comes only days after Walliams postponed his planned book event "The World of Walliams Mega Event" because of back problems. The comedian and author was forced to clear his diary and will undergo emergency back surgery this week for problems that arose when he swam the Thames in aid of Sports Relief in 2012.
Walliams is one of the UK’s bestselling children’s authors and has sold over 2.4m books in the UK through Nielsen BookScan.
The Slightly Annoying Elephant is his latest book and is aimed at children aged between three and six.
