Nielsen numbers reveal further audio growth as listeners rise in lockdown

Audiobook sales by volume, across both formats CD and download, are expected to show 15.8% growth by the end of this year, rising from 19 million to 22 million units, with first-time listeners also rocketing yet again.

Nielsen’s latest Books & Consumers survey projected audiobook sales could be worth £164m this year, up 12.3% from £146m in 2019, marking the seventh consecutive year of growth. The data firm’s annual Understanding the Audiobook Consumer survey, which polled around 2,000 adults in August 2020, also shows an increased appetite for the sector with another surge in new customers...
