Nielsen BD merger go-ahead

<p>Richard Lewis</p><p>The merging of bibliographic databases later this year will be the first step to follow last week's government clearance of VNU's acquisition of Book Data.</p><p>In its report to the secretary of state for trade and industry, the Competition Commission concluded that the merger of database and transaction services companies Whitaker Information Services (WIS) and Book Data was not against the public interest.</p><p>It said that if VNU, owner of WIS, had not acquired Book Data in June 2002, then the Twickenham-based agency might have been bought by Bowker.
