Little, Brown imprint Sphere has hired Darcy Nicholson, commissioning editor at Transworld, to be editorial director for its fiction list.
Reporting to Sphere Fiction publisher Lucy Malagoni, Nicholson will be tasked with acquiring the best women’s, book club and general fiction for the list and leading the imprint’s strategy in those areas. She is due to join on 3rd February and will be hiring a new commissioning editor for the team.
Nicholson started her career with a brief stint in the Penguin rights team before moving into editorial at Headline. She joined PRH imprint Transworld in 2015 where she has worked across commercial and bookclub fiction and non-fiction, with authors including John Boyne, Andy McNab and A A Dhand.
Nicholson said: "I have had the best five years at Transworld, where I have been privileged to work with – and learn from – not only the most talented but also the kindest people; I will miss my wonderful colleagues and authors very much. But the opportunity to join Lucy’s team at Sphere is one I couldn’t ignore. I have been so struck by their careful balance of creative and commercial drive and I can’t wait to join them in this role, bringing new talent to an already brilliant stable."
Malagoni said: "Darcy has a fantastic and well-deserved reputation across the industry and I am delighted to be welcoming her to the Sphere fiction team. I have no doubt that she will bring tremendous energy, passion and ambition to the list and be instrumental in driving commercial success for Sphere over the coming years."
