Library campaigner Tim Coates is set to make the case for defending the public library service from the imminent government spending cuts in BBC2's current affairs programme "Newsnight" tonight (Tuesday 8th June).
Coates will be a participant in what the programme is calling its own "mini-consultation" on where the government's forthcoming cuts should come, with a panel including MP John Redwood.
The "Newsnight" discussion comes in the wake of a BBC Radio 4 "Today" programme interview this morning in which Alan Downey, head of public sector at consultants KPMG, raised the possibility of libraries being run by volunteers in future.
