Campaigners protesting against huge cuts to Newcastle’s library service have set up a website allowing members of the public to find out more and get involved.
The website, savenewcastlelibraries.org, brings together a petition against the proposed cuts, a blog with updates on the campaign, and ways for people to get involved in the fight. There is also a Twitter profile, @SNLcoalition, tweeting useful advice and links for campaigners.
Last month, Newcastle City Council revealed its budget proposals for the next few years, as it looks to make £90m of savings, the equivalent of £760 for every household in the city.
Part of their plan includes closing 10 of the city’s 18 libraries, while all of the council’s budget for culture will be scrapped.
