Puffin has released the cover and title of the eighth Diary of a Wimpy Kid book by Jeff Kinney.
The book will be called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, and feature a distinctive lime green cover.
Puffin will undertake its largest-ever print run for the book when it is released on 6th November 2013, with 800,000 copies being printed. Today's reveal of the cover is a culmination of a month-long campaign building interest in the title using the Wimpy Kid website and social media.
Francesca Dow, m.d. Of Penguin Children's, said: "Wimpy Kid fans will get lucky this Autumn as a new Wimpy Kid book from Jeff is always the biggest and best news in children's books. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck is set to be another great milestone in this incredibly popular and long-lasting series which remains a permanent fixture at the top of the UK’s children’s book chart and bestseller lists worldwide."
The book will be accompanied by a full marketing and PR campaign. The campaign for the previous book in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel, won awards from the Publisher's Publicity Circle and Book Marketing Society.
The new title will see main character Greg Heffley on a losing streak, with his best friend Rowley abandoning him and new friends hard to come by. Grey decides to make a leap of faith and turn his decision making over to chance. Kinney said: "“Greg’s Heffley’s life outlook has always been a gamble. In this book we’ll see if luck has anything to do with how things turn out.”
