Picador will release Bridget Jones's Diary (And Other Writing) in February 2021, a new edition of the novel with more than 100 pages of extra material from author Helen Fielding.
Next year marks 25 years since the hugely successful book was first published.
The new material will include extracts from Fielding's early journalism; a selection of restaurant reviews from Fielding which feature the real-life inspirations for characters in the book, including Daniel Cleaver; a curated selection of the original "The Diary of Bridget Jones" newspaper columns in the Independent; and columns on MeToo, Brexit and Bridget's life under lockdown.
Paul Martinovic, associate editor at Picador, said: “I think the prospect of attempting to do the legacy of Bridget Jones’s Diary justice in a single edition was a daunting one; however, I think Helen has put together something truly special here. With Bridget Jones’s Diary (And Other Writing), as well as one of the funniest books ever written, you also get a unique, hilarious and revealing tour through 25 years of Bridget history from Helen Fielding herself. It’s a labour of love that I’m certain is going to delight all Bridget fans, whether they have been on board since the Independent columns or have only come to the books recently via the films. There’s no question in my mind that this is the definitive version of one of the most popular and enduring books in living memory.”
Bridget Jones’s Diary (And Other Writing) will be a B-format hardback (£14.99) out on 4th February 2021.
