Blackwell’s has opened a new shop on Oxford Brookes University campus, 40% bigger than its previous one on the site.
The shop officially opened yesterday (18th February), and sits above Starbucks in a new partnership for the bookseller. Starbucks is based on the ground floor and Blackwell’s takes up the first and mezzanine levels of the building. It features more trade books front of store than usual to entice locals to use the shop.
Will Williams, head of academic bookshops for Blackwell’s, said: “We had a shop at the university which was slightly off pitch for a number of years. Brookes is reenergizing the campus to mark its 150th year and we have moved locations to coincide with that into a much more open, inviting space for customers. The university hopes to encourage people from the local community to use its campus shops and services, so we are having trade books front of store and opening on Saturdays for the first time to coincide with that.”
The shop is 40% bigger than its previous site and employs four booksellers.
Blackwell's also recently opened a store in London's Holborn after relocating from Charing Cross Road.
