Book Industry Communication has formed a new operation board and it reveals its areas of focus for the coming year. The organisation will look at improving supply chain efficiency and the needs of digital publishing, specifically product information, identifiers and rights.
Nielsen Book president Jonathan Nowell, chairman of the new operational board, said: "Our industry is entering a phase of instability: we have powerful new entrants who are bringing with them new challenges and opportunities. It is critical that BIC takes a proactive role in building on the spirit of consensus that it has always fostered. BIC will be ready to answer the urgent need for advice on best practice and standards and to speak for the industry as a whole."
The operational board will oversee BIC's activity and advise its executive director Peter Kilborn. It will report to the BIC board, comprising members of the Booksellers Association, British Library, CILIP and the Publishers Association and corporate members. Pearson's Genevieve Shore will chair the board, taking the place of Michael Holdsworth who has retired from the board after seven years.
The operational board's other members will be: Graham Bell of EDItEUR; Mark Bide, representing the Publishers Association; John Garrould of Bertrams; Bob Jackson of Gardners; Mark Majurey of Taylor & Francis; Edward Milford, representing the IPG; Martin Palmer of Essex Libraries; David Smith of Macmillan Distribution; Fraser Tanner, representing the Booksellers Association; Genevieve Shore of Pearson; George Walkley of Hachette UK; Gabrielle Wallington of Waterstone’s; Nigel Waters of the Random House Group; Neil Wilson of the British Library; and Jon Windus of Nielsen Book.
