Nigel Roby, former publishing director at Centaur Media, is this week joining The Bookseller in the new role of managing director. He will also have responsibility for The Bookseller's American sister magazine, Kirkus Reviews.
"I'm confident that Nigel's analytical rigor and creativity will be hugely beneficial in continuing to develop the high potential of our literary businesses and guiding them through their next phase of growth," said Gerry Byrne, senior vice president of the entertainment group at Nielsen Business Media, owners of The Bookseller.
At Centaur Roby ran a division of 65 people including The Engineer and New Media Age, the market-leading internet weekly magazine which he developed from 1995 onwards. Before that, he held various roles in a 12-year spell at Haymarket, including launching Planning Week and publishing PR Week.
Roby replaces The Bookseller's former publisher Tracey Davies, who left in January to join Emap as publisher of Retail Week.
