Transworld has confirmed the publication date of Joanne Harris' next novel, to be called Peaches for Monsieur le Cure, and said it will revisit the settings and characters of her bestselling novel Chocolat.
The book will be published on 24th May as an £18.99 hardback, with lead character Vianne Rocher receiving a letter from beyond the grave which leads her back to Lansquenet, eight years after she opened a chocolate shop there. But she finds a different village to the one she left, with women veiled in black, the scent of spices and peppermint tea and a minaret on the banks of the river Tannes.
Doubleday publishing director Marianne Velmans said: "A new novel from Joanne Harris is always an event, but this novel is extra special for me, as one of her legion of devoted fans, as it follows Vianne Rocher back to Lansquenet . . .
"Here are all the sensuous scents, sights, tastes and sounds that we love, plus a gripping, surprising story that confronts some of the most pressing social issues of our time."
