New Eva Dolan series for Harvill

Harvill Secker has pre-empted the first two books in a new series from Eva Dolan, who was previously shortlisted for the CWA Debut Dagger award.

Senior crime editor Alison Hennessey bought world all language rights in the books from Mark Stanton at Jenny Brown Associates, with the first to be called Long Way Home and published in spring 2014.

The plot opens with the death of a migrant worker, who has been burned alive in a suburban garden shed. It soon becomes clear that the owners of the shed have something to hide, but while DS Ferreira from Peterborough's Hate Crimes unit thinks they've found their killers, her boss, DI Zigic isn't so sure. The pair must work with victims and villains to find the truth.

Hennessey said: "Eva Dolan's debut novel is simply one of the best crime books I've read all year, and I'm thrilled we're going to be publishing her at Harvill Secker. I was hooked from the first page but, as with all the very best crime fiction, it's about the writing, characters and issues she explores as much as the gripping plot."
