Granta Books has signed a new book from social critic and political activist Barbara Ehrenreich on the topic of mortality.
Editorial director Bella Lacey signed UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada in Old Enough to Die from Karolina Sutton at Curtis Brown on behalf of Kris Dahl at ICM.
Lacey said: "Barbara Ehrenreich is one of our most exhilarating and trenchant social critics, and here she turns her penetrating mind to a subject which affects us all: how we approach our mortality. Dissecting the worlds of preventative medicine, fitness, and virtual health care in the west, she explores how a new dystopian understanding of biology is challenging our delusion of mastery over our bodies, and considers how we might strike free from the ever-growing trend towards medicalised death. This is a much-needed and completely fresh take on the subject of mortality, by one of our most acclaimed contemporary thinkers, and I’m delighted to be publishing it at Granta."
The book will be published in spring 2018.
