Matt Phillips has been appointed the new editorial director for Yellow Jersey Press, the sports imprint of CCV, part of the Random House Group.
He replaces Tristan Jones, who has decided to leave the company to pursue other interests after running the list since 2003. Phillips will take the role this autumn, reporting to Rachel Cugnoni, Vintage publishing director and CCV deputy publisher who will be overseeing the imprint in the interim period.
Phillips joined RHG in 2006 as advertising copywriter for CCV and Cornerstone, before being promoted to creative manager.
Cugnoni said: "He's the perfect man for the job—a publishing professional with a genuine and passionate love of sport.  During his years spent working in marketing Matt has learnt the important skills of how to sell books and he will bring this knowledge with him and apply it to his publishing at Yellow Jersey. He'll manage it like Arsène Wenger manages Arsenal; with passion, enthusiasm, professional rigour and just enough gamesmanship to keep the opposition on their toes!"
She added, "‘I am very sorry to see Tristan go... He has been a valuable, much admired and outstandingly popular member of the CCV editorial team. I speak not only for all his Random House colleagues when I say that he will be greatly missed, but for all the agents he has dealt with and the authors he has served too. We wish him well."
Phillips said: "It's an enormous privilege and pleasure for me to be working on a list for which I have so much respect and admiration. Yellow Jersey Press has a fantastically bright literary and commercial future and I can't wait to take the list on."
