Picador is publishing a new Clive James poetry collection in May, called Injury Time.
The new collection of "deeply moving and life-affirming" poems from the broadcaster follows his 2015-published collection, Sentenced to Life, dealing with death at a time when "he was sure these poems would be his last," said Picador.
In the new collection, James, who is diagnosed with terminal cancer, writes an intimate series of poems - about childhood memories of his mother, to a vision of his granddaughter in graceful acrobatic flight - as well as about Australia where he began his life, and where he says he hopes to "reach the end". He also reflects on the consolation and wisdom to be found in art, music and books.
Finding himself with more time on the clock than anticipated, according to Picador, he is "all the more determined to use it wisely and to capture the treasurable moment, and think about how best to live his remaining days while the sense of his own impending absence grows ever more powerfully acute".
Injury Time will publish on 4th May 2017.
