New children's category for IBW Awards

The Booksellers Association has revealed a revamped logo for Independent Booksellers Week and a new category for its IBW Book Awards, for which submissions are now open.

The new category is for Children’s Picture Book. Meanwhile IBW's refreshed logo [pictured] now takes on the orange colour of last year’s striking Books Are My Bag campaign.

The BA is calling on publishers to make submissions for titles they would like to see championed by independent booksellers during the IBW week by 28th February.

Publishers are charged no fee for entering and there is no limit on the number of books a publisher can submit, but the BA has emphasised that publishers should only enter books they feel will “truly appeal to the independent sector.”

Two judging panels comprised of authors, booksellers and well-known book lovers, chaired by BA President Patrick Neale, will then meet to determine the winners of each category, which will be announced on 28th June.

Patrick Neale, BA President and Jaffe & Neale Bookshop in Chipping Norton, said: “The IBW Book Award is a fabulous prize. Authors respond so well to being chosen because they know people who are passionate about books have selected them. I am so pleased to be involved as Chair of the prize. There is such positivity around the prize which is so heartening for all High Street booksellers.”

To qualify for the prize, nominated titles must be available in paperback on 28th June 2014 and have been published in paperback between 1st January 2014 and 28th June 2014.

The shortlists announced at the end of May and the winners will be announced on 28th June, the first day of IBW 2014 which this year runs from 28th June – 5th July 2014.
