New Barker novel for 4th Estate

Fourth Estate's Clare Reihill has bought UK and Commonwealth rights to Nicola Barker’s 10th novel, In the Approaches, from David Miller at Rogers, Coleridge & White.

The book is said to be set in 1984, " which seems almost as distantly located in the past as Orwell’s was in the future", and to offer "a captivating glimpse of something more shocking than any dystopia - the possibility of faith.”

Barker’s most recent novel The Yips (4th Estate) was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2012. The author has previously won the David Higham Prize for Fiction, the Macmillan Silver Pen Award, the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and the Hawthornden Prize.
