Police intelligence analyst Elizabeth Haynes has won the first Amazon Rising Stars award of 2011.
The mother-of-one, who lives in Kent, came top in a consumer-review poll asking readers which one of four Amazon-selected novelists deserved the title of ‘rising star’ for best debut. Her novel, Into The Darkest Corner, is published by Myriad Editions.
Haynes was up against Snowdrops by A D Miller (Atlantic Books), My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira (Fig Tree) and thriller The Terror of Living by Urban Waite (Simon & Schuster).
Her novel, about a woman who tries to escape after falling under the spell of a controlling man, will now go onto the Amazon shortlist for the overall Amazon Rising Stars of 2011 award, presented at the end of the year.
The next four contenders for Amazon’s Rising Star title are: Before I Go to Sleep by S J Watson (Doubleday) Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (Allison & Busby), The Godless Boys by Naomi Wood (Picador) and The Trouble With Alice by Olivia Glazebrook (Short Books).
Amazon.co.uk customers will have until July to review and rate the shortlisted titles with the one judged as receiving the best customer feedback winning the second quarter award and joining Elizabeth Haynes on the 2011 shortlist.
