Myriad has signed Never Alone, a "gripping new psychological thriller" from Elizabeth Haynes.
Never Alone is set on an isolated farmhouse in North Yorkshire, where Sarah Carpenter is adjusting to life on her own. When Sarah’s best friend and then her daughter go missing, she finds herself in terrible danger, not knowing who to trust.
Senior fiction editor Vicky Blunden bought world English language rights to Never Alone from agent Annette Green at Annette Green Authors’ Agency.
Blunden said: "Elizabeth has a real gift for creating characters we care deeply about and putting them into situations that terrify us. In Never Alone she bewitches the reader with the beauty of the isolated rural setting and the highly charged sexual chemistry between Sarah and Aidan - whose relationship may not be all it seems - before ratcheting up the tension. The story preys on our darkest fears, showing how quickly we might find ourselves alone and scared, with no-one to turn to."
Publisher and m.d. Candida Lacey said: "We're delighted to have this opportunity to publish Elizabeth Haynes' new novel. It is a tremendous vote of confidence in a small independent publisher and shows how independents have a significant role to play in discovering and nurturing writers and supporting their ongoing careers. It is a testament to Elizabeth's versatility and talent that she is embarking on a new psychological thriller alongside her series books and we will be supporting her every step of the way."
The signing marks a return to the psychological thriller genre for Haynes, and a return to the publisher that first discovered her. Haynes was an intelligence analyst working for Kent Police when her debut novel, Into the Darkest Corner, was acquired by Myriad. Rights have been sold in 33 territories and the film rights have been optioned by Revolution Films. Myriad published two further standalone psychological thrillers by Haynes - Revenge of the Tide and Human Remains-– before she began her crime series featuring D.I. Louisa Smith with Little, Brown's Sphere imprint.
Myriad will publish Never Alone in Spring 2017.
