Myriad Editions signs two

Myriad Editions has signed two new authors for its 2012 list, including a novel by a University of East Anglia Creative Writing MA graduate.

Fiction editor Vicky Blunden bought UK and Commonwealth rights to former UEA student Natasha Soobramanien's Genie and Paul through Cathryn Summerhayes at William Morris, with Blunden descibring it as "a lyrical and finely wrought debut which travels between London, Mauritius and Rodrigues". It is inspired by story of Paul et Virginie, a novel by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, about a couple who have been friends since birth and who then fall in love.

Blunden also bought world rights to Liam Murray Bell's debut So It Is, direct from the author. The book is described as a "political coming-of-age novel and a literary thriller", following Aoife, a girl growing up in 1980s Belfast who finds herself the last line of defence between the violence of the Troubles and her family.

Both books will be published in summer 2012.
