Myriad acquires second novel from Eckstein

Brighton-based indie Myriad Editions has acquired a second novel from The Cloths of Heaven author Sue Eckstein.

Fiction editor Vicky Blunden bought world rights to Interpreters directly from Eckstein, who is a BBC Radio 4 playwright as well as a lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

The book tells the story of Julia Rosenthal as she returns to the suburban state of her childhood, interlocking her discoveries with those of another woman who struggles to look back on her early years in wartime Germany.

Blunden said: "Interpreters is an important book: both devastating and beautifully understated. Sue Eckstein tackles some of the most complex aspects of recent history with subtlety and sensitivity.

"Her characters are compelling and richly human, striving to make sense of the past."

Myriad will publish in September 2011.
