Waterstone's new managing director Dominic Myers will be appearing at this year's IPG Conference, as the chain looks to increase the new m.d.'s profile two months after he took over the retailer's reins. Some 225 delegates are booked to attend this year, an increase of more than 10% on 2009’s total and the highest turnout in the 48-year history of the annual event,
Myers will be speaking at the 'Question Time with the Retailers' section of the annual conference, which this year runs from Friday 19th March to Sunday 21st March in Old Windsor. Amazon's Gordon Willoughby, Blackwell's Andrew Hutchings and Foyles' Sam Husain will also appear in the Question Time slot.
Bridget Shine, executive director of the IPG, said: "We are delighted that our conference will welcome both record numbers of delegates and an outstanding list of high profile speakers.
"It shows that independent publishing is in great shape and is highly valued by retailers—and that IPG members appreciate this opportunity to meet and talk now more than ever." However, Shine said there was "last-minute availability". Membership of the guild is also currently at an all-time high.
The Saturday night of the conference will see the Gala Dinner for the fourth annual Independent Publishing Awards, run by the IPG in association with The Bookseller and the London Book Fair.
