Muswell press is to publish The Water Garden by Virginia Prize-winner Louise Soraya Black.
Muswell Press acquired world English rights from Sarah Phair at Sandford J Greenburger. Publication is scheduled for Spring 2021.
The Water Garden follows mother of two Sarah, who is prompted to investigate how a young boy died after seeing his memorial bench at the beach. Sarah finds herself uncomfortably drawn to the dead boy's friend Finn and uncovers a complex web of family secrets.
Black weaves together two narratives, one told by Sarah in the present day, and the other a series of stories related by the women in her family dating from 1944. The novel explores themes of motherhood, guilt and family.
Sarah and Kate Beal, publishers at Muswell Press, said: "We are delighted to be publishing this compelling and vividly atmospheric novel by prize-winner Louise Soraya Black, a hugely talented and engaging writer."
Black won the Virginia Prize in 2009 for her debut novel, Pomegranate Sky.
