Unbound is crowd funding for a new book by ‘iconic’ producer and musician Matthew Herbert.
Instead of producing a new record, Herbert’s debut book, The Music, will describe in “precise and almost poetic detail” how the record will sound. It will be divided into chapters the way an album is divided into tracks, with each chapter dedicated to the discussion of the sounds of the record.
On the Unbound platform, authors present a pitch for their book and readers pledge to support it.
Herbert’s book is currently 13% of the way to meeting its funding target.
Herbert said: “Unbound is the perfect home for this project as it already implicates the audience in the process of creating the book itself.”
Managing editor of Unbound, Isobel Frankish, said: “From the moment we met Matthew we were fascinated by his vision for a book that challenges all our expectations of what a book could (or should) be. We couldn’t be more excited to be launching such a playful, adventurous project.”
Herbert, a British electronic musician, is known for his diverse and innovative body of work including One Pig, an album made up entirely of manipulated recordings of a pig’s life, ‘from birth to plate’.
