The Independent Publishers Guild is looking to build on the momentum of new members built up last year, with food publisher Murdoch Books joining the body. Some 90 independent publishers became members of the IPG last year.
IPG chairman Andrew Johnston said: “We are delighted to welcome Murdoch Books into the IPG fold and hope that the company and its staff enjoy the many benefits of membership.
"It is more important than ever for independent publishers to have extensive networks of support and a strong voice in the industry, and the ever-increasing popularity of the IPG is good news for us all.”
Murdoch has more recently expanded from its core range of illustrated cookery books into other sectors including, via its Pier 9 imprint, a range of travel, memoir, history and human interest books.
Sales director Carrie Boyes said: “We are thrilled to be joining the IPG and look forward to sharing ideas and support with the other members.”
The IPG's 48th Annual Conference and fourth annual Independent Publishing Awards are due to take place in March.
