The Edinburgh Bookshop is changing hands after five years so that founders Vanessa and Malcolm Robertson can concentrate on their children’s publishing arm, Fidra Books.
The Robertsons founded the Edinburgh Bookshop in 2007, but since then Vanessa Robertson said running the shop had become “all-encompassing” and it was now time to return their energies to focusing on publishing. The couple have passed ownership of the shop—which is still growing revenue, with sales up 3-4% this year on last year—to Marie Moser, a former marketing manager for the James Thin chain. Vanessa Robertson called Moser a “long-time friend of the shop”.
“Malcolm and I are immensely proud of what we've achieved at the bookshop”, Roberston said. “I would like to thank all the members of the publishing trade, authors, other booksellers and most of all, our customers, who have supported The Edinburgh Bookshop since it opened in 2007. Now that the shop is established as a part of the city's literary scene we feel the time is right for us to concentrate on other book-related projects —especially our somewhat neglected publishing company, Fidra Books.”
She added: “It is difficult to hand over the bookshop after working so hard for the last five years, but we could not be more delighted to be handing over to such an experienced and enthusiastic book lover as Marie.”
Robertson said there were other book projects she was interested in working on—although she has yet to reveal them—and added that Fidra would be bringing out around five new titles next year.
