Morrissey wins Bad Sex in Fiction award

Morrissey was last night (1st December) named as the winner of this year’s Literary Review Bad Sex in Fiction Award for List of the Lost (Penguin Classics).

The judges said Morrissey was chosen from a shortlist that also included Richard Bausch and Erica Jong for an “ecstatic” scene involving athlete Ezra and his girlfriend Eliza.

The passage describes Eliza and Ezra rolling together into “one giggling snowball of full-figured copulation, screaming and shouting as they playfully bit and pulled at each other in a dangerous and clamorous rollercoaster coil of sexually violent rotation”.

The award was announced by lawyer, columnist and performer Nancy Dell’Olio at a ceremony at the In & Out club in London. However, Morrissey did not attend the ceremony in person and did not respond when the Literary Review asked for comment.

Last year, the award was won by Ben Okri for Age of Magic (Head of Zeus).
