Literary magazine Granta's associate editor Simon Willis has left. Willis’ departure in December followed the exits of four of the magazine's senior editorial staff, including editor Alex Clark, in the space of eight months. Willis, who had been at Granta for two years and is now between roles, said his departure was "a personal decision" and that it had been "time to move on."
However joining the magazine this month is artistic director Michael Salu, who was previously senior designer at CCVP at Random House, where he worked on Vintage Classics. Salu has also worked with the musician Tricky and, as freelance brand consultant, was responsible for creating and designing the new brand identity for Curzon Cinemas. Granta editor John Freeman said:
"We're all thrilled that he is on board to help us make the magazine as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside."
Salu joins editor John Freeman, deputy editor Ellah Allfrey, Ollie Brock, who was made online editor in December, and editorial assistants Patrick Ryan and Emily Greenhouse. The magazine's creative team is now complete, Granta said.
