Pan Macmillan has acquired 11 new Purple Ronnie books. Purple Ronnie creator, Giles Andreae's new titles will be published by Macmillan Boxtree over the next two years. Jon Butler, editorial director of Boxtree, said: "We are delighted to be part of the success - both present and future - of this publishing phenomenon."
Coolabi, which handles the rights to the Purple Ronnie character, has also signed a deal with Michael O'Mara to publish Purple Ronnie's Doodle Book. The book will provide incomplete drawings for the reader to finish.
Purple Ronnie has also been sold into a foreign market for the first time, and Purple Ronnie's Book for a Smashing Grandad and Purple Ronnie's Book for a Lovely Grandma will be published in Dutch by Uitgeverij in September.
Janet Woodward, head of licensing for Coolabi, said: "What is amazing in this case is that, even after 20 years of uninterrupted success, the market for Purple Ronnie books is still expanding, through new publications, new imprints - and now a new language."
