Novelist Barbara Erskine will stay with HarperCollins until 2017 after signing a new book deal with the publisher.

HarperFiction publishing director Sarah Ritherdon signed the deal with Erskine's agent Carole Blake at Blake Friedmann, securing world English language rights to two new books from the novelist, who has has been published by HarperCollins since 1991.

Erskine's novels have been translated into more than two dozen languages, with her first novel Lady of Hay selling more than three million copies worldwide.

Ritherdon said: "I am absolutely delighted to be continuing to work with Barbara. I was a huge fan of her story-telling before I was lucky enough to publish her, and the material I have already seen for the next book is absolutely stunning.  It is based on her father’s wartime memories of being a pilot in the Battle of Britain, and I know we’ll have another bestseller on our hands."

Blake said: "It’s always satisfying to agree another multiple book contract that keeps an author with their long-term publisher. HarperCollins have been publishing Barbara successfully since 1991, and River of Destiny, published in hardback this summer, saw triple digit sales growth. We’re looking forward to beginning our 22nd year as a partnership."
