Winnie-the-Pooh sequel details revealed

Egmont Publishing has revealed the title and authors of a new Winnie-the-Pooh sequel, first announced in April.

The Best Bear in All the World, an anthology of four stories, will be published in October 2016 to mark the 90th anniversary of the first publication of Winnie-the-Pooh. Mark Burgess will illustrate the text in the style of original illustrator E H Shepard and four authors - Paul Bright, Jeanne Willis, Kate Saunders and Brian Sibley – will write the stories.

Nicole Pearson, creative director of Egmont Publishing, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with four authors who have such passion and respect for Milne’s writing. Each really understood the wonderful characterisation Milne brought to his books, his playwright’s facility with dialogue and, of course, his unique sense of humour.”

Bright is the author of Quiet! and Crunch Munch Dinosaur Lunch (Little Tiger Press), whilst Willis’ titles include The Bog Baby (Puffin) and Dr Xargle’s Book of Earthlets (Andersen Press). Kate Saunders is a full time author and journalist and she won the Costa Children’s Prize this year for novel Five Children on the Western Front (Faber Children’s), a sequel to E Nesbit’s Five Children and It.

Sibley is the author of Three Cheers for Pooh, published last year by Egmont, and lectures on the work of A A Milne and E H Shepard, whilst Burgess provided the illustrations for the first authorised sequel, Return to the Hundred Acre Wood, which was published in the UK in 2009.
