With vampire titles top of every child's summer reading list Michael O'Mara is bringing out a parody for both parent and child to chuckle at.
Diary of a Wimpy Vampire: Because the Undead Have Feelings Too by Tim Collins will be published as a £7.99 paperback on 20th May.
Alison Parker, sales director at Michael O'Mara, explained that the book came about because of the popularity of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series and Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. "It seemed like a perfect marriage to create a parody between these two hot topics," she said. Last year the publisher released New Moan, a parody of two Twilight titles.
Michael O'Mara is billing the book as a "comic tale of a teenage vampire's struggle with the angst and traumas of adolescence". It focuses on Nigel Mullet, who was transformed into a vampire when he was still a teenager, and will remain this age forever. However, he became a vampire at the awkward age of 15, and must spend eternity coping with acne, a breaking voice, and an ineptitude with girls.
Parker said the title is "excruciatingly funny" with "fantastic" illustrations. She added: "It is primarily aimed at teens aged 12 to 15, but I think as an adult you would find it very funny, especially if you've got teenage children." Parker explained that it is similar to Sue Townsend's Adrian Mole titles so would appeal to fans of those books.
