Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook moves to Octopus

Mitchell Beazley, part of the Octopus Publishing Group, has acquired The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook by Tarek Malouf and the Hummingbird bakers.

The book was first published in 2009 by Ryland Peters & Small, but the rights reverted back to the author and have now been sold to Octopus via publisher Alison Starling, who acquired world rights all languages from Zoë Waldie at Rogers, Coleridge & White.

Hummingbird-founder Malouf and the Hummingbird bakers have created a new edition of the book, "fine-tuning" their classic recipes and introducing eight new bakes, including Hot Cross Bun Cupcakes, Mile-high Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake, Sticky Fig and Pistachio Cupcakes and Chocolate Cola Cake.

Starling said: "When Mitchell Beazley was offered the opportunity to acquire rights to The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook we jumped at the chance. It’s the title that kick-started the baking boom in the UK, introducing a whole generation to the joys of home baking. It’s a huge privilege (and pleasure) to be working with Tarek Malouf and the Hummingbird bakery team to publish an enhanced and extended edition of this much-loved classic."

Malouf said: "I am so happy to have the opportunity to revisit our classic recipes and incorporate all the new tricks and techniques we’ve learnt over the years. The home baker nowadays has so much variety when it comes to ingredients, equipment, recipes and techniques, which weren’t available when the first edition came out in 2009 and it’s great to be able to reflect this for 2017. We also have eight new recipes, including our best- selling Mile High Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake, which we’re sure will quickly become favourites with our readers."

Malouf is the founder and owner of The Hummingbird Bakery, an American-style bakery founded in London’s Notting Hill in 2004. The bakery now has seven branches across London and Surrey and four in the Middle East, with further launches planned.

The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook will be published in October 2017 by Mitchell Beazley in hardback priced at £17.99.
