David Milner has joined Jonathan Cape as senior editor.
He starts at the Vintage imprint today (6th September) and will report to publishing director Michal Shavit.
After being an editor at Secker & Warburg in the 1990s and early 2000s, Milner went freelance, working with a number of literary publishers including Jonathan Cape, Chatto & Windus, The Bodley Head, Hutchinson, William Collins, Bloomsbury and Macmillan.
He has worked with authors such as Yuval Noah Harari, Simon Schama, Tony Blair, Ian McEwan, William Boyd, Sebastian Faulks and Marina Warner among others.
Milner said: “Having followed the peerless Cape list for my entire reading life, and having worked with a number of Cape authors for many years in a freelance capacity, I couldn't be more thrilled to be joining Michal and her wonderful team in a full-time senior editorial role.”
Shavit commented: “I have long admired and respected David's brilliance as an editor and have enjoyed working with him over many years. It's a great pleasure and privilege to now have him working with us at Cape.”
