Mills & Boon has launched Mills & Boon Romantics, a set of awards to “celebrate the UK’s most romantic things”.
There will be 12 categories, including most romantic wedding venue and most romantic hero or heroine, where the public will be asked to nominate a loved one who has done something incredibly special and romantic for them over the past year.
The company, whose parent company Harlequin was bought by HarperCollins last year, said it could “use its experience and position as the UK's most successful publisher of romantic fiction to recognise and honour the businesses, services, people and moments that make us all go weak at the knees”.
Joanna Kite, marketing manager at Mills & Boon, said: "With 20,000 kisses, 20,000 love stories, and 10,000 marriages, Mills & Boon certainly knows a thing or two about romance and what a perfectly romantic moment should entail, so we are absolutely thrilled to be bringing you The Mills & Boon Romantics.
“Gone are the days of the single red rose, being romantic is big business, from starlit roof top cinemas to magical creative proposal agencies, romantic gestures are getting a lot more imaginative. We wanted to use our knowledge and expertise in this sector to establish The Romantics Awards to celebrate just that."
The 12 categories are most romantic restaurant or bar; most romantic UK destination; most romantic wedding venue; most romantic UK venue; most romantic hero/heroine; most romantic UK experience/activity; most romantic gift; most romantic view; blogger's award; romantic entrepreneur award; most romantic classics; and Mills & Boon author's award.
Nominations for the 2015 Awards are now open for entry and will be whittled down to a longlist by the romance experts at Mills & Boon.
A panel of independent experts, authors and industry figures will then choose the final shortlist of which one winner for each category will be announced on April 29th.
Nominations close in mid-March and the shortlist will be declared in April.
