Macmillan US is to launch a new, stand-alone division specialising in non-fiction, with Macmillan Trade c.e.o. John Sargent hiring Robert Miller to create the new division.
The as-yet-unnamed company will publish roughly three books a month, starting in early 2015. Miller will report directly to Sargent.
Miller was most recently group publisher at Workman Publishing, and previously founded Hyperion for Disney in 1990, working there as publisher for 18 years. His first job was at Macmillan division St Martin's Press.
Miller plans to start with a small editorial staff in the beginning of July, and said: "I couldn't be happier to return to my roots on 23rd Street, where I learned so many of the publishing values I've aspired to ever since." He thanked Sargent and his Macmillan colleagues for their "enthusiastic support".
Sargent said: "This business is all about the authors and the books. Finding the right books at the right price is a tough job, and Bob has shown himself to be very good at it."
